Hello! I am new to this forum so I am not sure I am posting in the correct place. Please let me know if I am not.

I am trying to replace the transmission for my 1987 YJ. I'm not a mechanic, just a jeep enthusiast, but my understanding is that it's a 4L, 6 Cylinder. I've tried a few different local transmission shops and haven't had any luck finding parts or a replacement. Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time!
Jeremy

Unfortunate if you have the factory trans. Kits can be had from various suppliers but you may want to consider swapping in an AX15.

The Novak Guide to the

Peugeot BA10/5 Transmission

The Peugeot BA10/5 transmission is a five-speed, overdriven, light-duty, passenger car transmission used by AMC Jeep from 1987 until mid-1989 in the YJ Wrangler, XJ Cherokee and MJ Commanche with the AMC 258 & 4.0L I6.

The 10/5 transmission had a poor record for durability and service, and consequently had the distinction of being the transmission with the shortest production run in Jeep history. It was gradually replaced by the AX15 during the 1988 model year.

If your 87 has a 6 cyl it came with a 4.2 liter (258 cu in). If it does in fact have a 4.0 in it now someone has done a swap and may also have a different trans.
