PO put a Holley on my 89 YJ with 4.2 manual trans. Starts great and runs great/strong since I got it over a year ago. Also had the nutter done. Also going to add the HEI dist when I get to it. All I did was add a cool Holley air cleanter...the PO did a scab job with stock air cleaner housing...

Isn't that the way it goes so often? Brand new part didn't work, and spurs ya towards replacing a bunch of other parts that were fine? Crap..well at least you solved it and can move on. With all those replacement parts in fuel and ignition systems...you are set up (hopefully) with a lot of fun...

speaking of coil....I remember reading thread in the past about the notoriously wonky coil connector on the mid 90's 2.5's . And causing running issues. If you fiddle with it a little while it's running you could see if that connector is shorting. When my 89 4.2 was intermittently failing to...

Dang...sorry man, you are really having to chase this around. No small projects that you've done so far (especially fuel pump). so kudos for hanging in there. Couple things...if fuel related, very possibly either injectors (dirty or failing...one could cause serious issues as you mentioned it...

Yeah, and check those grounds! Again, not familiar with your config....I'm assuming fuel rail with 4 injectors, but I know some of the old 2.5 had TBI fuel systems (throttle body injector) but I'm more familiar with traditional carbs and injection systems. If it's a "traditional" throttle body...

I also have 89 with 4" RE lift and 33 mudders. However, I find it pretty damn fun to drive at all speeds (to an extent, it is a lifted leaf sprung YJ afterall). All good advice..especially laying underneath while someone moves your steering wheel slowly back and forth, not enough really to move...

Agreed...had both also. My father inlaw bought a tj like 7 years ago with hard top and doors. Right away bought bikini top, etc. For summer fun. Never once had top off. He'd like to, but just too much hassle for him to bother.

Both Any hard top is cumbersome compared to YJ rag. Of course Jeep streamlined the soft top design and mechanisms on subsequent generations. YJ was 1st wrangler after all. But I'm amazed how stout, functional, flexible, and watertight it is when properly deployed.

Ive had both, and store in garage with top off during summer. After a few times, soft top not too bad to take down and put up. Much faster than hard top hassle (had garage ceiling hoist for that jeep). Using half doors, and go doorless in summer too. Live in Oregon. Soft top louder, but liveable...

Oh, and clean the copper printed bulb contacts too on back of panel as they get corrosion (same with gauge cluster that caused non working temp and fuel gauges for me).
