I would like to remove the dimmer switch and simply short the 12 V of the dash lights are on full power all the time. I would like to route the door dome light to an auxiliary switch instead. Does anyone know which wires I would connect to do this? The manual and Internet resources I have say too short, the blue and orange wire, the two on the outside of the connector, to bypass the dimmer. The wiring on the back of my dimmer switch, however, does not have a blue and orange wire. Can I still short the two from the outside to remove the dimming function?

For the dimmer, could you not tape the dial in full position so it's always at max and then unmiunt the whole dial and secure it up behind the dashboard out of sight and then it's there fully working if you ever needed to sell the Jeep and put it back? Just a suggestion. I've done similar stuff and regretted it a coupe of years later.

I like the suggestion! I am looking to be able to turn on the dome light without opening the door or dimming the dash all the way. I did an LED conversion and the dimmer at the very top sometimes causes the bulbs to flicker. I was hoping to delete it, but I would do so behind the harness so that I could revert it back if needed. I just want to make sure I understand which wires to join. Looked it up online and have found 2 sets of wire colors, but nothing that confirms the pinout location, or which ones go to where.

The problem with shorting it is that the dash lights are off of the constant battery bus, not the switched ignition. If you shorted it, your lights would be on, even with the car off. If you want to have the lights on, find a switched ignition source and splice that to your output to the dash lights. Key on -> lights on. You can find that output if you have a multimeter. Just check for continuity (zero resistance) between the 4 wires on the back of the dimmer switch, and the a dash light power wire. The wire that has continuity is your output. As far as the dome light, there should be 2 wires coming from the light. Just trace it back and put a switch on one of the wires. Extend the wire if you want to run it somewhere else in the car.

They sell independent battery powered dome lights that attach any where you want them, And they're a better quality of light than the incandescent bulbs...
