Guys, I messed up. Replaced the timing chain and gear. Went smooth. Just a lot of work to get to it. Put it all back together and Jeep runs great. EXCEPT I’ve developed a nasty knock. Using a wooden dowel, I listened all over the motor. It’s coming from timing chain cover. Happened to look in the top of my toolbox and saw the plastic timing chain guide…. You can imagine how pissed I was. I know this is mainly for noise reduction. But, I’d like the knock to go away. Is there an easier way to install this instead of tearing front of motor apart? I.e. does anyone know if it can be installed by removing the oil pan? I’m almost certain the answer is absolutely not. But doesn’t hurt to ask.
