Finally got to it today. Went to drop tank. No dice. The rear skid bolts were seized/spinning and I was not about to fight them. So, knowing I have 1" body lift mounts freshly installed, I decided to gamble with my life and use a dremel and do the access panel cut. Killed my dremel (it was 10 years old anyway). Switched to jig saw and broke the blade once I hit the rear most body hat channel. Then got out a used wheel o death and threw it in my angle grinder to finish the job. By then I could pry up the plate some and verify the wheel wouldn't hit anything.
Pulled the sending unit out and yep, it's an aftermarket replacement with the split hose issue just like machoheadgames posted above. Nobody local has any submersible fuel line in stock (figures), so I ordered a foot from Dr. Evil dot com along with a sending unit gasket since the previous moron that worked on it decided that gasket was merely a suggestion. Now I know why I kept getting an occasional smell of gasoline when driving. Also noticed that this person left out a fuel filter as well, so that got corrected too.
Slapped a short piece of 3/8 fuel line that I had on hand in place of the split piece to verify that was the issue (it was) and pulled it fully under the carport. I'll replace both the line and the gasket this next weekend.
Also, I did replace the front soft line/disconnect section with some fresh AN-6 lines and fittings, so once the rest is finished, it'll be good to go.
