Hi All, I have a 92 YJ with a ford 8.8 rear axle. I noticed that since I increased my rear pinion (when installing a slip yoke eliminator), the diff cover hits the gas tank skid just a little bit, when going over bumps on the road. Seems to be the thick axle plus the increased pinion creates a slight clearance issue that would not happen if it was the stock D35. Since I did not want to damage my gears, I changed to a heavy duty diff cover in the hopes it will "self clearance" the skid plate (as recommended by some others). It has not "self cleared yet" and just hits the skid when going over bumps, though it has only been a few days. Any suggestions? Anything I can do without dropping the gas tank? Grind out a hole in the skid? Wait longer to see if it self clears?
