Check engine light came on yesterday and threw codes 27 and 41. It started running rough and had developed a chirp a week or so ago. Would a loose belt cause both those at the same time? Is it all coincidence? Any other ideas? Does have a bit of a gas smell but that is not new. 1993 yj manual 2.4l.

Well, 27 involves an injector not responding properly to commands that would explain your rough running if you have an injector not working.

41 is "Alternator field control circuit open or shorted." That might explain your chirp if your alternator is going bad internally.

41 is the only one of those 2 that will always illuminate the CEL. 27 may or may not.
