Hi everyone. New to posting on the forum. I have an 89 2.5 TBI YJ 5-speed that I bought 2 years ago for $850. Very little rust but it had been sitting in a shed for about 12 years. Pulled the engine, rebuilt it, and got it running. The problem I am having is that it idles and runs rough when the engine is cold. It does not stall but is difficult to drive. 1200-1800 RPMs are the worst. It will occasionally "diesel" when shut off and runs rough for a few seconds after a warm start. After it warms up it runs and drives fine. I replaced fuel filter and injector with no improvement. I tested the coolant sensor to make sure it was working properly to send the signal for the ECU to initiate open loop when the engine is cold. I am not sure if it is actually in open loop like it should be.
Any ideas what I should check next? I am trying to avoid spending needless money throwing new sensors and parts at it without having any idea what will actually help it run better when the engine is cold.
Thanks.
