Hazards won’t go off

Pulled over and got out to grab something. Put my hazards on and when I got back in they wouldn’t go off. I pushed, pulled and twisted but nothing. Is there something I am missing or should it just pull straight back out. I had to disconnect the battery when I got home.

1993 2.5l manual.
 
Thanks for the replies. Went with both but ultimately had to open it up. Still don’t know why it started, but was getting hung up on a tab. Bent it a little and got it to work. Takes a little work to get it to stay on now, but it will.
