    Heater Cable Replacement Questions

I now have my heating system all up and running. And, I DO understand your frustration. Omix sells cables that are a bit too short and I could not find a new replacement for the one you mentioned. On my 1990, that cable has an "adjuster" built into it that changes the effective length, used...

    Whistling Noise Coming from Engine

Flyer58 - Excellent and important point. Those "cupped" washers are essential and they only work if torqued to the proper value. Over-torquing to the point of flattening these things can actually cause intake leaks (or break/strip the studs!). Great photo, by the way.

    Whistling Noise Coming from Engine

I have a 1990 Jeep with EFI and experienced the exact same issue on my 4.2L in-line 6. In my case, the whistle began during colder ambient temperatures but grew worse over time (months). Also, it only occurred at or near idle when the intake manifold pressue is at its lowest (greatest vacuum)...

    Washer Fluid Problem (unique)

I know what I'd look for first... a bad/open ground. First look under the hood, front of engine compartment just behind the headlights, left and right side, there are ground wires leading to the right/left side marker lights held down with sheet metal screws. Make sure those contacts are clean...

    AX-15 Transmission Fluid Report

I completely agree with your "Do It Yourself" advice and did so for years. I found though, as I age, it's not as much fun as it used to be to climb under the Jeep on the driveway! So for basic maintenance items such as oil changes, I farm it out. The local "Grease Monkey" is the business that...

Should I sell or keep? 90 YJ Islander

If you sell it, you will always look back with regret. You'll become one of the people that often come up to me, reminiscing about the Jeep they once owned, wishing they still had it. So, have you considered modifying your fiancé situation? If such modification is not possible, then let...

    Air conditioner

What year/model Jeep? On my 1990 YJ, the cable you picture has nothing to do with A/C. It controls doors/defrost in the heating system. But. whatever. The picture doesn't show enough detail to confirm this, but closely examine the WHITE clip near the end of the cable, photo left side. This...

    Dashboard illumination doesn't turn off

Gauge illumination begins at the Park/Tail 20 amp fuse which goes directly to the Headlight/Parking Light switch panel. The gauge power comes directly from the Parking Light Position Switch (split switch for parking lights also supplies power to the gauge lights). On my 1990 YJ, the ONLY DC...

    Heater Cable Replacement Questions

Thank you MHG...Cables that don't suck!!! I can find used cables that make no claim to the condition of those clips.. So, I've ordered new cables by Omix-Ada. Reviews are mixed, I'll report later. I hate it, but I think you are right about removing A LOT of the dash components. This will be...

    Heater Cable Replacement Questions

1990 Wrangler - The instrument panel Heater Control has 3 steel cables running to it... one on the bottom and two on the top. While removing that control panel, I had a terrible time removing those top cables. They each had a very rigid square plastic guide (one white, one black) that snapped...

Is the oil pressure switch normally open or closed?

I agree with Gilaguy... the gauge accuracy on these old YJ's is questionable. I do find that the Voltmeter, though, agrees with a handheld voltmeter. However, I do value the bragging rights that all my gauges are original and they all work. I will drop the gauge cluster and clean up the...

Is the oil pressure switch normally open or closed?

I also posted a question concerning the Oil Pressure SWITCH, different than the Oil Pressure SENSOR (Sender) that sends info to the Oil Pressure Gauge. My 1990 YJ has no Oil Pressure light on the panel, so I really don't know WHAT that switch does for the Jeep! In my case, the connector fell...

Oil Pressure Switch - What does it do?

Photo Attached... It may be kinda large. I also considered that this switch should activate a Low Oil Pressure Light, but there is no such light on the instrument cluster. It was never incorporated by the factory, at least on a 1990 YJ.

Oil Pressure Switch - What does it do?

This question concerns the Oil pressure SWITCH sensor, NOT the oil pressure sending unit that registers oil pressure on the gauge. The connector came loose and dangled in the air, but I had no operational change or abnormal indication. Made me wonder, what does this switch do? I'm considering...
