What goes here on the windshield sides?

Here I was, innocently installing my new soft top last weekend, and, of course, I noticed something I’d never come across before. On both sides of my windshield, there are a series of small screw holes.

Now, I certainly didn’t put those there. The holes don’t really impact… anything. But based on the look of the holes, something used to be there.

I looked at old ads of YJs, and I saw that some of them have some sort of gasket on the edges. However, most YJs I could find for sale today seem to not have them. Additionally, the windshield kits I found invariably included things that might or might not be… it.

So - for all you YJ sages out there, I ask: What goes there? Now that I know that my windshield is incomplete, I need to fix it. I think you understand.

Thanks in advance!

Quadratic carries them...

They provide the forward mount location for the upper door channel for YJs with the original soft top and factory half doors. With your full doors and an after market soft top installed you may need to do some trimming.

If you never plan on running half doors and soft uppers, then just weld them up. As others have stated, they are left over holes from the forward channel for soft upper doors to seal against. You can see where I added them on mine in my build thread once I swapped from hard top and full doors to soft top with half doors. The plastic channels are secured via self tapping screws through the pinch weld edges of the windshield frame, creating the holes you are seeing. Welcome to AMC/early Chrysler Jeep quality!

Yeah, I have those same holes in mine as it had a soft top on it when I bough it. I removed all the soft top parts to use the half hard top I made instead. It bugs me to have all the holes in those side channels but I have just left them.
