I just replaced my Red Top Battery.
It was almost $300 after tax 😲
That's about a hundred bucks more than the last one I bought 💸💰💲🤷
Just Empty Every Pocket 😓

I have never had an Optima battery go bad. The two blue tops on my boat are 15 years old. The other ones have less time on them but are still good. One thing that I have always done is use the correct type of charger, that is the life of any battery but especially an AGM battery. I have a marine charger for AGM on my boat and an Optima charger for around the house, this one will charge any type of battery. When I went to buy the Optima charger I stopped at a local Advance store and asked the manager if he could get me one. He wanted to know why I wanted to spend the extra money on the Optima charger. I explained it to him and he went on to say that you can charge an Optima battery with any charger it didn’t matter. Then he told me that he wouldn’t waste his money on Optimas because he has more returns on them than any other battery. I asked him if he was giving his customers the advice on charging those batteries. He said “ yes I tell them just use any charger it doesn’t matter”. I told him he wasn’t smart enough to sell batteries and left.

Truer words were never spoken....I'm lucky to have a real battery shop here in my little town with a Cool Chick running it that really knows her Kraft.....
I'm replacing the dual batteries and cables in my Ram in a couple of weeks and was thinking of taking the Optima plunge because the Ram sits sometimes
and I'm expecting the five yr old Wally World specials to take a dump anytime now....Can you explain the Color/Colour coding of the Optima's to me?
Really want the stoutest deep amperage that I can get....

All the info you could ever want used to be on the Optima web site, I don’t know about that anymore, I haven’t looked for some time. Red tops are automotive starting non deep cycle, yellow tops are deep cycle rugged off road type use, blue tops are deep cycle marine use. All of these are also good for use as a starting battery too. The actual difference between the yellow and blue I can’t tell you.

Years ago I bought a yellow top for my farm tractor and it lasted 12+ years until it just wouldn't keep a charge. I can't complain too much because I bought it from a local AutoZone for $25. It was brand new but was past the expiration date so technically they couldn't sell it and it had no warrantee. He said he'd rather sell it than have to box it up and return it and I got a once in a lifetime deal. I replaced it with another yellow top which cost a lot more :)

Nice battery. What was the lifespan of the last one?
It was tagged 6/16. But it had a hard life. Ran dead multiple times, stored for months at a time. Etc.
It was tired.

I use a Noco Genius charger. It is a smart charger with AGM settings.

I've had good luck with red top batteries over the past 20 years. I've owned at least a half a dozen and they've all been great. That's why I bought another one.
...but if they get any more expensive, I might not be buying another one.

I have a Genius charger also for smaller batteries and I love it. Six in twenty years is not very good unless you had them on different vehicles at the same time. Sounds like they were all abused, but then then everyone can’t treat there battery with kid gloves. My dad would always buy Craftsman power tools, I bought him a good DeWalt drill for Christmas and he took it back and got a cheaper Craftsman drill. His reasoning was that Craftsman was a far superior drill because he had bought 12 of them in the last 10 years. He loved them.

Different vehicles. Some I removed when I sold the rig and transfered to new rig. Usually get 10 years or so out of one.
The winch may be a factor on the Jeep.

YES, winch is a big factor. That is why my Jeep will have a yellow top.
