When I turn the key on my 88 YJ Wrangler nothing happens. Something is broken inside the steering column. I have replaced both the ignition switch and the lock cylinder but the key just turns freely and doesn’t spring back. Is there some spring or actuator pin that could be broken? A mechanic said that I need a whole new steering column but is there some part that I can replace without buying an entire column? Please help!! Thank you!

Are you sure you got the linkage rod back into place?
Learned that one the hard way, and it was a bitch to get back into place after it fell out.
I didn't know about taping the rod to the column Before removing the switch.
