Hello all!

1992 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I had the dash unbolted to mess with the speakers. After putting it back together, I noticed this hanging down below the heat controls. I imaging it has something to do with that. It is some sort of vacuum switch.

Any help is appreciated!

That is a vacuum motor and it operates the upper passenger cowl flap. It opens the flap anytime heater is in defrost, heat, or vent.

That’s all correct. The off/defrost/heat/vent slider holds the button in off mode which lets vacuum reach the motor to close the flap. When you move the slider to the other 3 positions, it lets go of the plastic vacuum switch, blocking off vacuum to the motor and the flap opens.

The switch breaks off with the crappy screws or nuts or whatever they use. Probably 8 or so years ago mine broke off so I super glued the vacuum switch to my heater. No problems since.
