Oil Pressure Switch - What does it do?

This question concerns the Oil pressure SWITCH sensor, NOT the oil pressure sending unit that registers oil pressure on the gauge.

The connector came loose and dangled in the air, but I had no operational change or abnormal indication. Made me wonder, what does this switch do? I'm considering removing the entire sensor.

This is for a 1990 YJ, 4.2 L. It left the factory with a carburetor and gobs of emissions control junk, but has been converted to Fuel Injection using the Mopar kit.

THANKS!

Afternoon Gary...where is the switch located and can you take a photo?

I think one's for the pressure gauge and one is for a warning light...

...more than likely, the one you're looking at could be for the light...

Photo Attached... It may be kinda large.

I also considered that this switch should activate a Low Oil Pressure Light, but there is no such light on the instrument cluster. It was never incorporated by the factory, at least on a 1990 YJ.

Interesting to know on that...could it be in the form of an engine light instead of an oil light? I've got a factory shop manual and will look into it...
