Hey all,
Need to replace my spice front seats in ‘94 YJ as the driver seat is broken. Would like to match the backseat, see photos attached. And would like to go with original ‘used’ seats in good condition. I see seat options on YouTube but surprised how many don’t fit properly. I see Rugged Ridge, Smittybuilt and Bestop seats on Amazon. They look ok but are they the same size as original? They look bigger. None are like the backseat. Would appreciate any thoughts on how/where to go to get close to the original. Thanks

Probably better off searching and searching for stock seats. Aftermarket sucks, they're all thicker than stock and put you significantly higher and at weird uncomfortable angles. It is quite unfortunate - the seat market could be so much better than it is.

It doesn’t lock into the most upright position, so I’m leaning back more than I’d like. And the support near the top of the seat is very weak, when I turn to look right or into the back, it feels as if I’m going to fall into the back. I’m thinking car upholstery shop might be the route. The vinyl is perfect. The insides of it aren’t.

Thanks, based on the replies I’m getting that’s what I’m thinking now too. And you’ve confirmed my concern about going new after-market… they look way too big.

The other ones look mint, so maybe get it reupholstered and repaired.

Thanks. The support in top part of seat is weak as well, so I think I need a new ‘old’ seat. have a line on one, will look to swap the vinyl on mine to It. But I’ll keep this in mind as it’s the more pressing problem of the two.

I have been looking for seats and a good recommendation on interior carpet. Yours looks clean! What/who did you use for the carpet?

I’ve only had the Jeep for 1.5 mths now. The carpet is original as far as I know, and I’ve done nothing to it. I am going to steam clean it when the weather warms to get rid of the musty smell up front, but other than that, its perfect. Sorry I can’t be of much help.

Front seats, especially the drivers seat, are hard to come by for a YJ. I found enough parts and pieces online through Jeep Junk yards to repair the drivers seat in my 93 YJ. There are lots of parts available on that infamous online auction site.

Yes, I am realizing that! And seems that's the case with many OEM parts. I was naive to have thought differently when I bought it. But given it’s 29yrs old, that’s on me. Anyhow, I‘ve found a local guy who has a ‘recline mechanism‘ that will solve part of the problem...if I can install it. And I didn‘t have to go thru that ‘infamous online auction site’. One step at a time, right. Thanks for the feedback.
I wanted to keep the interior of my YJ original so I tracked down used original seats. Took awhile, but was worth it!

If your seat is in decent condition, this might work:
Might need an upholstery shop to install it though.
Brilliant! Thank you. I ended up finding a guy locally here with a wrecked drivers seat who’s good with giving me that recline mechanism.
