Hey ya’ll:

My jeep YJ is stuck in 4th gear and won’t move. I’ve changed the gear oil for new oil. Even replaced the tower housing with a new/ used one. I put everything back together as it was. And I’m still having the same issue… any thoughts?
I’d appreciate it.
Thanks.

Make sure your clutch is fully disengaging. Sometimes, if the clutch isn't properly adjusted, it can cause gear selection issues. The clutch is the first thing I'd suspect personally.

Inspect the shifter linkage to see if it’s misaligned or damaged. If it’s not engaging or disengaging properly, that could definitely cause it to stay in 4th gear.

Check if your slave cylinder is functioning properly. If it's leaking or not operating as it should, it can lead to issues with shifting.

It may be that there could be an issue inside the transmission itself, like worn or damaged synchronizers. If this is the case your best bet is to take it to a shop that specializes in transmissions. It will most likely be time for a new transmission or a rebuild if this is the case.

Also, look at the shifter pivots and bushings as well. Sometimes when they're worn out, they can cause the shifter to not move smoothly between gears.

Let us know what you find, and good luck!
