I never noticed this before yesterday, but I can remove the key from the ignition switch in the accessory/run position. I do need the key in the switch to turn the switch from OFF to run/start but not to turn it off.

Is this normal? Can you remove the key with your engine running? I have no reason to think this is not the OEM key switch.

1992 YJ 2.4 4 speed.

Your key is worn out.

I was able to take my key out with it running. Pulled the spare out and worked as it should, so I had a new one made from the unused key.

Thanks, I've been driving since the mid 70's and don't recall any key coming out. I need new door locks for my full door so I may buy a matching ignition key too.

I had an '87 that didnt even have a key. It would just disappear from the parking lot after last call as friends would take girls they met to the beach after the bars would close down.
