How will 35s be with 4.56 gears?

You dont include what trans/engine you have which would be helpful. 3 speed non OD or manual not in od should get you somewhere in the neighborhood of 2900 rpm. I run my 4 banger all day at 3K rpm' with 31's and 4.10's where it likes it. BUT...with a big but here..35's with a D35 and a AX5/4cyl,f thats what you have are not gonna be happy. Im sure some of the other guys will chime in and offer their first hand knowledge.

As gila said, really need to know your engine and transmission combo. Personally only on the 4.0 3-speed auto would I consider 4.56 with 35's. With a manual 4.0 I'd go straight to 5.13 and with a 4 cylinder I really wouldn't run 35's at all because I can't choose a ratio low enough that I think it would be worth it.

So, what engine and trans do you have?

I regeared my 4.0 5-speed manual to 4.88 and 33's. Haven't driven it still but will soon. Should be great. Ran 4.10 and 31s for years, was very good overall, geared like a TJ rubicon, but sometimes I still wanted a little more pep. I like to be around 2800-3000 on the highway at 70-75 mph and I shift higher than that, more like 3800-4000 in town and 4500-5000 merging onto the highway.

Also as stated previously, the D35 is not very good for 35's and should be beefed up or replaced. And pretty much no matter what, the 4 cyl manual is not going to like 35's because you just can't really gear low enough for them without swapping to other axles.

4.88 w/2.5 5-speed and 32's here.
Got so used to mashing the gas w/4.10s & 32s that now I have trouble not speeding.

Would not put 35s behind any 4cyl with gears higher than 5.89, now it's axle swaps.
6cyls have the torque to turn 35s running 4.88 maybe 4.56, but I think that's pushing.
IMHO and experience lower is better in a jeep.

Agreed fully on the 4 cyl. 32-33s in the 4.88-5.13 range is good. Wouldn’t do 35’s either without at least 5.38, 5.89 would be good too.

The 6cyl is pretty solid but with the manual it really still needs at least 4.88 for 35’s and really benefits from 5.13. 2800-3000 at 70-75 is solid. Any less and you’re still downshifting on any grade it seems. The engines are good with revving, may as well let ‘em.
