Dana 30 front locker options

Since you’re up in Canada, I’d imagine you’re using 4WD in the snow/ice. If that is the case, you probably will want a selectable locker. There are only a few selectable locker options…ARB, Eaton, and Ox are the popular ones. Yukon also has some. I’d lean Eaton out of the available options.

If installing a front locker, your front driveshaft is going to spin in most cases, due to the internal resistance in the locker. The front driveshaft does not spin in stock form. Sometimes depending on if there is any lift and the condition of the driveshaft balance, causing the front driveshaft spin can create vibrations. I would add that adding a locker, in my opinion, justifies deleting the CAD. The CAD is what allows the front driveshaft to sit still in stock form, but once you add a locker, typically the driveshaft will start to move anyways. So may as well eliminate the potential fail point.

Perma lock kits or using a 1-piece axle out of a TJ or XJ can make that swap easy. I prefer Perma lock because it maintains the stock front axle sealing design.

Thanks for the info! I have swapt my holl diff to a xj dana30 so i wont have to mess with the cad, i mostly drive in snow/mud/musckagg/log's. Not much rock crawling in my area.

FWIW, I run a lunchbox in my XJ. Specifically, the Power Trax No Slip. It's basically a Lock Right/Spartan/Aussie with an extra set of dog clutches that help smooth out operation. For the past few years, we've been getting ice storms here in Texas that last a week or more. We're talking straight up ice, very little snow. Doesn't matter what vehicle you have, traction is sketchy at best. I had no issues with running around in 4wd during that time, even with the front locker. Even though the tires are locked together and turn the same, the wheels are still turned and pulling in whatever direction you are turning.
