so let’s start at the beginning. I shot my front driveshaft off the case and it blew a hole right by the shift gate. I took the terraflex sye off the case to put into another one, forgot the speed sensor ring in the back, tore it apart again got it all sealed and put back in the jeep. Only to realize it didn’t shift. Took the linkage out with hope and a pry bar I got it into 4lo to go wheeling for the day. So now it’s back apart. FOR THE LIFE OF MY I CAN FIGURE OUT WHY IT WONT SHIFT. With absolutely nothing in it it shifts. Put the shift rod in and it doesn’t. Am I missing some kind of spacer on the shift gate? It almost seems like the rod is binding on it but I can’t see how

Shift Rod Alignment: Make sure the shift rod is properly aligned with the shift gate. Sometimes, it helps to adjust the position of the shift gate slightly if the rod is binding.

Check for Binding: Since you mentioned that it seems like the rod is binding, make sure there isn’t any debris or misalignment in the shift gate area. Any slight obstruction could prevent the rod from moving smoothly.

Bushings and Spacers: Verify if there are any worn or missing bushings where the shift rod connects to the gate. Sometimes, the bushings can wear down and affect the movement. Check for any spacers that might need to be installed, especially if you swapped parts or took anything apart.

Internal Linkage Obstructions: Even though you’ve mentioned it shifts freely without anything in it, sometimes the internal mechanisms can get out of sync. It might be worth it to double-check that everything is back in its proper location inside the case.

New Parts: If you’re using any aftermarket parts (like the Teraflex SYE), double-check the compatibility. Sometimes slight differences in the parts can lead to unexpected binding or misalignment.
