water temp gauge quit while driving Pulled single wire off rear sensor + grounded.Needle did not move. When connected again turn key on and needle moves a small amount.Turn key off + needle moves a small amount to left.Is gauge bad or just need to remove instrument panel + do the "Eraser Clean" 1988 YJ 4.2 with 130,000 miles.Gas gauge has not worked since got this vehicle 22 years ago.

I know this isn't much help, but I think the stock gauges were horrible quality to begin with. Couple that with 38 years of related corrosion and sensor failures, I opted to replace all my gauges and everything related with AutoMeter dash (over $1200 shipped) plus all new wiring and sensors (including the fuel level sensor in the tank). I just don't see how we can keep these problematic components alive and still keep the YJ dependable and on the road.

just buy another sensor, i would not go and buy a bunch of parts, or taking things apart, till you find out what the problem is. good luck and keep us posted
