    Front bumper cover "support"

My Jeep came without anything covering the front crossmember, so I thought I get the 'Jeep' logo cover. In the factory parts catalog, there appears to be a 'support' underneath the plastic cover. does anyone know if this is important or what it does?

    Ashtray delete/power mod

I removed the ashtray last year to work on the HVAC and haven’t put it back on partly because it’s ugly. I do sort of want the 12v power supply in it however. Has anyone modified the existing ashtray with USB power ports? I don’t have a need for switches.

Stumped by Windshield wash motor electrical

I'm trying to solve another minor electrical issue which has me stumped (doesn't take much). The windshield wash spray motor has not worked since I got the Jeep. I'm confused because I'm reading 11+ volts to the connector contacts when the switch on the stalk is depressed, but it won't run...

Should I get a hard top or a soft top?

I have been using the bikini top that came with the jeep, but I’m considering getting a real top in case I decide to take it on the trails. I assumed i’d get a soft top because the top-down experience is to me one of the most essential parts of Jeep ownership. But the YJ soft top hardware...

Refinishing exterior trim with SEM Trim Black

In an effort to improve the appearance of the YJ, I’m painting some exterior parts with faded/ damaged finishes. Just want to share some photos and suggestions. Wiper arms, hood vent cover:

    Steering wheel snap ring

I’m removing the dash tracking down a shorted wire, and I want to disassemble most of the steering column while I’m at it to clean/replace the stalks/switches. The FSM says discard the snap ring when removing the lock plate, but it isn’t clear how I get another to replace it. Can it be reused?

Problem getting Crown body mount to fit

I’m replacing the two body mounts in the crossmember in front of the fuel tank (I’ll get to the rest of them later), and the new rubber isolator doesn’t seem to fit through the opening in the crossmember. I’m using Crown 5200 2660, which I confirmed is the part number from the Factory parts...

Brake lines in danger when changing body mounts?

I’m in the process of replacing body mounts, and my plan was to jack the tub up one side at a time. I’m wondering if there is anything else that needs to be disconnected for the tub to go up ~2” ? Brake lines or their brackets? Radiator fan shroud?

How much prep for mild frame rust?

I dropped the fuel tank yesterday because I was smelling gas fumes back there. Getting that all fixed up but while the tank is out I want to treat the mild rust before it gets worse. (My skid plate is starting to rust through, so it’s being replaced:) My question is, how clean does the...

Are my wheels going to fall off?

I’m trying to track down a clunk/rattle from the rear end, and I found that both rear wheels do this:

    Turn signals stopped working

But the hazard light do work. Where do I start? Disassemble the steering wheel? Or replace the flasher in the fuse box?

    Tailgate damage; recommendations please

After I bought the YJ, I saw the tailgate was damaged. Looked like it had been backed into something, pushing the spare tire carrier and denting the tailgate in. There were no tire snubbers, so the hinges have loosened a bit. I’ve adjusted the hinges and striker but if the spare is mounted it...

    Is this shield underneath necessary?

This shield that hangs under the front of the engine is decaying; should I try to repair/replace it, or is it entirely superfluous?

Texas Bestop Windjammer and Duster top

Picked these up with my YJ purchase last fall. I removed them almost immediately. They are in very good condition. Glass is clear, no rips or broken plastic. I don't see part numbers on them, but best I can tell from Bestop's website: Duster is for: 1992 - 1995 Wrangler with Factory Hard Top...

Oil pan gasket: sealant or no?

I replaced a leaking oil pan gasket on my ‘06 LJ last year and the FSM calls for a dab of Mopar sealant at each corner. Now it’s time for the same thing on the ‘95 4.0, but the FSM doesn’t mention RTV or sealant. Should I use some anyway?

    Stumped by short to ground

Since I got the YJ, the heater blower motor hasn’t worked. I don’t mind that much but it would be nice on a chilly day, and would increase the odds my wife will agree to ride in it. I finally decided to try and figure it out. I have virtually no experience in automotive wiring, but like...

How do I measure actual spring lift height?

The Jeep came to me with Skyjacker springs in the front and OME springs in the back, each sold as 2.5”. How do I measure the actual amount of suspension lift? Is there a standard place to measure, say, between the axle and frame?

    Shift tower lock ring

I removed my shifters when I replaced the shift boot, and had a hard time getting the lock ring in the AX-15 shift tower to rotate both for removal and installation. It’s such a small surface area to press down with fingertips and hardly any friction. Apparently I didn’t get it rotated all...

Cracked sheet metal at seat mounts; does this need to be welded

I'm removing everything from the floor of the interior, and found cracked sheet metal by the two rear driver's seat mount bolts. There's no real rust in the area, although I can't see the underside of one of them very well because the hole is recessed inside a reinforced box. The left-rear...

AX-15 transmission seeping after fluid replacement

I'm still going through the repair/replace/maintenance checklist on my '95, and got to the manual transmission oil last week. The both filler and drain plugs were difficult to remove and I had to buy a 6-point box end and a 6 point socket off Amazon. There were no washers or gaskets on either...
