What did you do in the garage / driveway today?

Pretty much wrapped up on the YJ's cargo/sleep platform. At this point, it's just testing and tweaking as needed, and maybe a test sleep one night. I also added tie downs to the fender boxes for the "house battery" and the folding table. The folding table is the reason the box is offset...

What rear axle are you running? One of my end goals with my YJ is TrueTracs on both ends.

What did you do in the garage / driveway today?

No pictures today. Welded in 21 1"x1.5" tabs to attach the side panels to and support the lids. And cut the side panels with some plywood I found in my attic. Not enough plywood to cut the lids yet and I don't have the hinges for the main portion of the box. The front portion will not be hinged.

What did you do in the garage / driveway today?

Started a cargo box/sleeping platform project on the YJ. I'd like to be able to take this out on solo trips comfortably while also cutting down on some of the gear I carry, such as my large tent. Got the frame and mounting tabs for the cargo portion done today. Tomorrow I'll build the frame (if...

75 weight gear oil is around the same viscocity as new ATF if you look at the charts. New ATF is around 20 weight engine, or 75 weight gear oil but apparently shears down pretty quickly in use to be more of a 10 weight after a while. Which is still around the bottom end of the 75 weight gear...

I'd be worried about the T-case pumping that 80-90 around when it was designed for something more along the lines of 10 weight (ATF). Not to mention bearing clearances, oil passages ect. Lots of T-cases have run hundreds of thousands of miles on ATF, no need to reinvent the wheel there. As...

Where can I find an oil dipstick for 1993 2.5?

Make sure you get the right part number. They were different depending on year/engine. 4cyl in 1993 needed 3300 7108 6cyl in 1993 needed 3300 7176

How hard to replace transfer case with a remanufactured one?

Buy 2 of them, Amazon is a good place get single wrenches or sockets for jobs like this, make sure you use the forum's Amazon affiliate link. Take the spare and cut it down to 6 or so inches long. This will make the top 2 or 3 nuts much easier to deal with since you can get a full swing on the...

    Multi-function combination switch

Couldbe a few different things. This is the column mounted dimmer. It could be bad. At the top of the column is the wiper/washer switch that can break and make activating turn signals and bright lights either very difficult or impossible. This is what your multifunction stalk goes into.

Good. I'm glad to see more and more YJs going the stock or moderate/reserved/sane modifications route instead of the full on mods where you basically have some random drivetrain on monster truck tires wrapped in a YJ body. "SAVE THE SQUARES!"

    OEM sensors vs aftermarket sensors

Take a deep breath, man, you seem to be getting pretty worked up. NAPA parts aren't magical. Standard Motor Products isn't exactly known to be cream of the crop parts, especially their sensors. I'm sure they're CAPABLE of making good parts to OEM specs but Stardard Motor Products branded stuff...

    OEM sensors vs aftermarket sensors

If you actually go to the dealer parts department in person, they can still sometimes find OEM parts for my 95 XJ and YJ. I was able to find a few sensors this way less than a year ago. But the supply of said OEM parts is certainly drying up. Most of NAPA's sensors are reboxed Standard...

    Fan / Radiator Shroud Question

Yes. Instead of the fan pulling air from around the radiator, it's forced to pull air THOUGH the radiator. Keep in mind that this helps at lower speeds. Higher road speeds there's more air being forced though the radiator than the fan could possibly ever move on it's own, so if you're getting...

Texas D35 Late 94+ Lunchbox Locker

Lunchbox locker out of a D35. For axles late 1994 and newer when they went to the 1.56in journals on the side gears of the open carriers. Prior to that the journals are 1.6 inches. Unknown manufacture or mileage, previous owners installed it at some point. All the parts you need and then a...

    What gears to choose?

You COULD go 3.73 gears. 3.73 was a factory installed option on some packages and gear sets are available. Would be a good middle ground. 4.10s would be streetable daily on 31s in my opinion, assuming you don't drive 80-85+ everywhere you go.

    OEM sensors vs aftermarket sensors

I can't speak for a more modern Jeep but the "OEM sensors are your best bet" thought process applies to most older Jeeps as well. The dealer still carries a some of our old sensors but if you can find NTK/NGK sensors on RockAuto they are who made most of the older 90s era Jeep sensors so you...

    Timing chain

Read his post man. He specifically mentions "Chain" multiple times in his post. So which one do you think he's talking about? OP, the timing chain is a somewhat involved job, but not hard. You can save yourself some headache on the I6s by removing the radiator and grille. You'll want to...
