    4.2 FI vs. 4.0 H.O. - impressions?

Thanks for the feedback so far. I do have a late 89 build with an AX-15 (which I verified). I do believe the HP to be higher on my 4.2 with the MPFI (4.0L injectors, intake, distributor, computer, etc.). Still, it is lacking on the highway. Otherwise, great power around town. I'm not looking...

1995 Rio Grande (just inherited it)

The Curt hitch allows you to keep the bumperettes and gives you a 2 inch receiver. I have it on my Islander. Bought it at Uhaul too - was even cheaper through them.

My high school self would be impressed with my “new” ‘95 YJ!

Cleaned up nicely. Are you going to put the splash decals back on?

    4.2 FI vs. 4.0 H.O. - impressions?

Good afternoon all. I am looking for some opinions from folks who have experience with both the 4.2 and 4.0 or a good idea anyway. I presently have a 89 Jeep YJ with the 4.2. 98k on it. The carb is long gone - I have the Mopar MPFI kit installed (basically all the fuel...

    Fuel mileage

Islanders were all 4.2 except one year - 4.0 in 91. No 4cyls and most were 4.2

What makes me love these Damn YJ's so much?

I don't disagree. I've got some pretty nice vehicles as well but my Islander is my favorite. So raw - the mechanical nature of it - simple, back to basics, and unique even (where I live there are very few left due to rust). I love the do anything and utility of it too - paddleboard on the roof...

Photo of stock rear driveshaft and angle (stock height)

Here is the driveshaft on mine which is all stock height. Much less angle. My YJ still has the original springs which are close to flat. Included a picture of one for reference.

Photo of stock rear driveshaft and angle (stock height)

I can take a picture soon. I don't feel like mine is that much of an angle. I'm on vacation in the Dominican but will snap a picture when I get home (early next week). If I forget, tag me in a post so I remember.

Anyone Downsize Tires For Better Performance?

Also didn't realize it was on small tires. Sounded like it was on large ones. Something else is up.

Anyone Downsize Tires For Better Performance?

That was certainly my experience. Big tires have a lot of rotational mass and changing the center of gravity does effect handling.

Help Identifying: What is this YJ rear frame bracket / shield called?

Interesting twist - mine never had one. Researching it now that I knew what it was for, only 91 and up has them. Mine's an 89. Guess it was never missing. Again - thanks for the help/info.

Help Identifying: What is this YJ rear frame bracket / shield called?

Thanks. I can see that if you use it on that type of terrain. I do not - pavement or beach princess and restored back to pretty much stock form.

Help Identifying: What is this YJ rear frame bracket / shield called?

Thanks folks! I thought mine was missing because at one point, a previous owner installed a body lift and made the cable routing too tight (still possible), but nothing else was there on mine other than the ebrake cable. Mine has the Mopar MPFI kit installed though so the filter is in a...

Help Identifying: What is this YJ rear frame bracket / shield called?

Does anyone know what this bracket/shield on the left side rear frame is called? It looks like the emergency brake passes through it and it just bolts to the frame near the rear bump stop. It is missing on my YJ and I'd like to replace it, but not sure what I'm searching for in order to find...

    Should I buy this YJ?

If you really want a YJ, you can find a much nicer one and maybe trade but if not, Toyota trucks (Rebuilt title or not) are always marketable. I wouldn't touch the one you posted for $500. I'm not even sure id want it in my driveway for free.

Anyone Downsize Tires For Better Performance?

I can't say enough good things about the Bilstein HD B6s. They really made a difference over the stock shocks (which were still functioning correctly). The ride is much more controlled - far easier to drink a coffee even under bumpy circumstances - they seem to pair really well with the stock...

Anyone Downsize Tires For Better Performance?

My current profile picture is with the 235s and yup, the offset of the TJ Alcoas is perfect - fully under the flairs. Mine are the 15 inch version from a Rocky Mountain Edition. There was also a 16 inch version from the Tomb Raider models. For reference - 1st picture is when I bought it and it...

Anyone Downsize Tires For Better Performance?

When I bought my 89 (4.2), it was manual steering with 32 inch tires and a body lift. Stock gearing. Within the first 5 minutes of driving it, I knew these mods were not for me. I swapped out the tires for 235/75/15 and am running them on TJ Alcoa wheels. I can't emphasize how much better it was...
