    '95 Sahara, 1st YJ

Not much happening to the YJ recently; just driving and enjoying it. I do need to pull the dash and get the heat/vent system in working condition, but I haven’t decided whether to install A/C so that’s on hold. I did have a seat belt lock up permanently, so I got a set of 4 replacements from...

    1987 Laredo Spice Wheel

I stumbled across this site https://craftcustoms.com/jeep-steering-wheel-and-dash-trim/ a few months ago. They seem to have experience and might be able to help.

    What are modest off-road mods?

I mean, at this point it’s hypothetical so cost isn’t a big factor yet.

    What are modest off-road mods?

If I’m going to put lockers in for rocky trails, isn’t it best to use selectable in both axles?

    What are modest off-road mods?

Has anyone done a SYE? Based on videos I’ve watched it looks fairly straight forward. Then a custom DC driveshaft. It might be nice to do that regardless and get rid of the drop pucks.

    What are modest off-road mods?

Plus my stock transmission skid has some definite rust compromise, so a mild tummy tuck with a new skid plate could be nice. I suppose I could tolerate a small body lift if I had to.

    What are modest off-road mods?

With the OME springs it has in the rear I had driveshaft vibrations, so it has a T-case drop at the moment. I’d have to get a double cardan rear driveshaft and SYE, I suppose.

    What are modest off-road mods?

I've had an LJ for the past 5 years and built it for moderate Colorado mountain trails. It's on 33's with 2.5" OME springs 1.25" body lift, and JKS Quicker Disconnect sway bar links. It is otherwise basically stock, with all original control arms, no tummy tuck, stock driveshafts, gearing and...

    Door striker adjustment

I found grade 8 1/2” flat washers in a 3-pack at Lowes; two washers fit the bill. Now the tailgate is solid and quiet; definitely recommend new seals if the existing one is old.

I would say it’s Matte; not true flat but close

    Door striker adjustment

I’ve replaced the rubber seal on the tailgate and I’m finding that the striker needs to move rightward in order to line up with the latch. I installed a new striker a few months ago and it came with one washer, but the parts catalog shows three (all discontinued of course). Can I just use any...

Anyone install the complete JeepAir kit?

Yes space to park cars is part of the problem. We have a big family and our teens and young adult kids have cars too. I read the JeepAir instructions and it isn’t too daunting. I need to completely remove the heating/vent system anyway to clean and replace cables. Can you comment on whether...

Anyone install the complete JeepAir kit?

Yes I do have two toys now, which I never thought would happen. The new car is an ‘05 lotus elise. It’s probably similar to a viper in practicality. I do plan on commuting with it 1-2 days a week, but there are some parts of town I visit for work I wouldn’t take it, and it won’t be good in rain...

Anyone install the complete JeepAir kit?

I’m torn which direction to go. I like the jeep as it is, but it’s not great as a daily driver. Since I got a sports car in January my wife wants me to get rid of either my old civic or the YJ. It’s like having to choose between losing an arm or a leg!

Anyone install the complete JeepAir kit?

Thanks for the insight; I’ll look into the nostalgic version. I’m beginning the second summer of running the YJ with a bikini top and no doors, but the road noise and heat are getting unpleasant for commuting. Plus I can’t always park in the garage, so it can get rained on by a surprise shower...

Anyone install the complete JeepAir kit?

I'm thinking about making the YJ more of a daily driver, but if I do, I'll have to get A/C and probably a proper top instead of just the bikini. The JeepAir kit looks quite good and the install looks manageable; can anyone comment on their overall satisfaction? it seems that since it is a...

Cleaning the door lock / latch

Thanks for the advice; I looked into it last night. The problem ended up being the latch release rods, not the locking rods. I had never connected the inner lock rod, and the outer lock rod has a lot of play and is not threaded-adjustable anyway. I ended up unclipping the rods from both the...

    Striker pin

Lefty loosey… Seriously , you need a T50 socket and one of these: I’d trace around the existing striker so you can locate the new one in the same place. Use some penetrating oil/spray in advance. Good luck

Cleaning the door lock / latch

Mine were similar; I decided to just replace them rather than painting such irregular surfaces and sourcing odd springs.

Cleaning the door lock / latch

I did mine a month or so ago along with new interior and exterior door handles, and for some reason the lock mechanism now catches when I lock them with the key so I can’t unlock them without prying on the lock from the inside with a flat screwdriver. I can imagine I messed something up on one...
