How do I install the inner shift boot?

@Chris probably took his post and made it a thread because the post wasn’t on a thread where it should have been.

    Yj lightbar

Never seen anything like that. I’ve seen people mount a 50” at the top of the windshield, and I’ve seen people mount individual lights (KC, Rigid, etc) at the base of the windshield, one per side.

Are there any issues regearing the axles with an automatic transmission?

You’re welcome. I don’t know what your current setup is with lift and all, but keep in mind that 33’s or 35’s will send you down the larger axle, tall lift, driveshaft mods to suit the lift, etc rabbit hole. Just be prepared that one thing inevitably leads to another. YJs came factory with 27’s...

Are there any issues regearing the axles with an automatic transmission?

I would suggest trying your best to choose between 33’s or 35’s long term and settle on one if you can….as for ratios I would go with 4.10s on 33’s or 4.56 for 35’s. Those are well known “ideal” setups for the 3 speed 4.0.

Are there any issues regearing the axles with an automatic transmission?

Nah, you can regear and it’ll be just fine. The transmission shifts and locks the torque converter all based on hydraulic pressures felt from the throttle and rpm. You may notice it shift earlier but using the pedal more will still downshift it like normal. This is assuming the transmission...

    Help with 4WD indicator light

The factory YJ part is discontinued. The Ram part is essentially the same part just with a revision at the end of the number (AB). I bought it and it looks and fits fine. I haven’t started my YJ to test out that switch yet but it should work fine I’m pretty sure. Considering YJ was 53001101 and...

    Help with 4WD indicator light

Gotcha. Do you know if the original switch in there was Mopar or was it aftermarket too? Aftermarket switches (both vacuum for YJ and electric for TJ) are notorious for the ball being too small (small ball syndrome), and they end up not actuating when the tcase shifter cycles. So if...

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

Good idea! The carpet tucks in under the bottom lip of the outer boot but those would still work well I think. Might actually help hold the carpet up against the underside of the rubber too.

    Help with 4WD indicator light

If you put compressed air on the holes at the 4-port plug that correspond to the axle, can you get any air out of the front? How about if someone plugs the axle end holes with their fingers? Any hissing from the middle of the harness maybe? It’s bizarre the issue you’re having. Maybe the leads...

    Help with 4WD indicator light

Yes it should do that - it’s a vent. With the engine pulling vacuum, air has to flow into the system somehow. Similar to a plumbing vent.

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

Yeah, that’s what I should have done all along….my YJ arrived to me with 4 of the 7 stripped. With carpet covering it up I didn’t care so much, but when I went bedliner, I could see the boot not fully held down in some spots which bothered me. I figured rivnuts would be the end all solution, but...

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

Thinking more about the boot, I’m tempted to try something….since I’m locked in on Nutserts, I’m kind of thinking about buying some threaded studs in the nutsert thread, threading them in fully, then I could just slide the boot on. I could enlarge the boot screw holes where necessary, if...

It’s 3/8-16 - that welding trick would definitely work. I had no welding capabilities and the new stick was like $40 at the time so figured that was easiest. Hmmm this seems surprising. Getting the inner boot holes over the square stubs was already a challenge - the holes are much tighter than...

89 YJ high beams stuck on

Hmmm, yeah in that case it could be the rod, could be the column mounted dimmer switch, or could be the wiper or turn signal switch where the stalk slips in if somehow the rod is disconnected there. I haven’t been through that part of the column in a long time and forget exactly how those 3...

    Help with 4WD indicator light

You will slightly rub the leaf springs with 31’s but you can just adjust the steering stops a bit with a washer under each one and it will fix it. You won’t notice the very slightly decreased turning radius.

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

My biggest problem with the boots is that I was tired of the self tappers not being tight or even snug on some of them, so I tried to solve the problem with nutserts which was a mistake. The nutserts have no tolerance for the bolt alignment so everything has to be perfect. On a curved trans...

    Help with 4WD indicator light

I think that would be about perfect. 31’s on stock rims is a good setup. I’m to the point where I don’t like aftermarket wheels. For my stock setup I got a set of brand new TJ stock wheels and put a set of 30x9.5 tires on them. I’m happy with it. If I had kept the lift, I would have done the...

    Help with 4WD indicator light

Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people run the posi lock and like it. It just doesn’t appeal to my tastes. Give it a shot if you think it will fix your problems and if it appeals to what you want (once you’ve gotten to the point where you don’t want to deal with vacuum) The photos on here of my YJ...

    Help with 4WD indicator light

It’s very odd that you’re getting vacuum on the plug but when it’s plugged into the tcase switch, you don’t get any vacuum on either axle port in 2WD or 4WD. In 2WD the tcase switch still passes through vacuum up to the front axle to apply suction on one side of the motor. Maybe you have a...
