What Differential Fluid Are You Using?

I always use 85W-140 conventional from Currie. It's thick, keeps the diff quiet, conventional is known to extract heat from gears better, and conventional leaks far less from axle than synthetic. So I stick with it. I also choose them because I run TrueTracs which are not supposed to have...

    Brake line replacement

I did the classic tube kit years ago. It was ok, not a fun install. I'm pretty certain I ended up removing both fenders to do it. That was less work for me than draining the radiator, buying coolant, etc. Obviously I could reuse coolant but I didn't have a bucket handy and really was just not an...

Main cluster issues with specific indicator lights

Up arrow is an upshift light for the manual trans. I pulled that bulb long ago, hated that thing.

Main cluster issues with specific indicator lights

When you say illum and hazards, what exactly do you mean isn't working? For illum I have no idea what that is (do you mean the gauge illumination?), for hazards I feel like you mean the triangle icon up on the cluster. If so, the triangle never lights up. the windows with the icons are generic...

    Throttle body

There is no throttle return spring. Some random TJs had them but YJs and most TJs didn't. You'll get used to the jerky throttle after a while. As for the throttle sticking, you may need to clean the throttle body of carbon buildup, and lube where the butterfly valve hinges at.

    Fuel Tank and pump

Don't see them very often. You can try this one: https://www.quadratec.com/products/55107_97.htm I don't know the specs of it other than it was made for a 2.5L 15 (14.5) gal metal tank. Looks like all the 87-90 TBI 2.5's had that 14.5 gal tank. Maybe that pump is good enough, but like I said...

    Fuel Tank and pump

1990 was not a fuel injected 4.0 year. In 1990 you could only get a carbureted 4.2L or a throttle body injected 2.5L. The tanks of that year would be a metal 14.5 gallon tank with a circular opening, or a 20 gallon plastic tank with a rectangle opening. either engine could have either tank...

    My seat sets too high.

Any aftermarket seat will sit way too high. If you have stock seats then I’d be surprised if you feel THAT high unless you’re really tall in the torso. The only real solution is a stock seat if you are aftermarket, and/or cutting and rewelding the stock brackets. That is not a fun time for any...

    Hardtop install...what can I expect?

Yeah a swing out should fix it. Honestly I only have 31’s so I’ve never had an issue but I’m not sure what will happen when I go to 33’s. My tire carrier is aftermarket but swings with the tailgate and the hardtop gate is still pretty close. Hopefully I don’t have trouble. Definitely a good idea...

    Hardtop install...what can I expect?

You usually need to open the tailgate all the way to get the hardtop to go up and clear the tire. Did you have it open all the way? Those do not look like stock tires either, and definitely not stock wheels (those are from a newer Jeep and look to be 32” tires on 17’s), so it may be an issue...

    SYE axle shim question

Motor mount lift doesn’t really change the driveline angles much. With an SYE 6° shims on OME was perfect if I remember right. With the 1.5” tuck I needed around 8°. I did a D44 swap though so now it’s all a blur. Rough country 2.5” included 6° Shims which were perfect for SYE. The 2.5° shims...

    Hardtop install...what can I expect?

I would order some factory bolts and nut plates for the drive. The 7 screws that go along the windshield channel are far less important, but I would at least want 4 or so of the 8 bolts holding it to the tub, rather than clamps or anything else. Could also instead of the factory torx bolts get...

    Oil Sending Unit

Uninsulated is all I use and I add my own heat shrink. With the T&B crimper I also use, that connection ends up stronger than the wire. It depends on each situation but most of the time I can keep the end result slim enough to not be noticeable or a problem.

    Oil Sending Unit

I think if you saw what I use you would agree they are a lifetime repair.

    Oil Sending Unit

Not sure what he did but in my mind a mechanically crimped butt connection with weather sealed heat shrink is pretty much always best. I don’t like soldering as I find it to be more work to install and not any better performance or durability than crimping. In other words, I see no reason to...

    Tire pressure

I don’t think it would do anything since that’s a sway bar. As for the sway bar, I felt my YJ was mildly acceptable on the road without one on stiff suspension, and straight up dangerous without one on stock suspension. So I definitely added one back. But I went with stock, not anything fancy.

    Tire pressure

Yeah I remember. Glad it worked out well like it did. I wish I had tried different shocks. I went from stock with definitely bad stock shocks straight to rough country 2.5. Wish I had tried stock shock replacements to see what I think. That was so long ago that I guess it doesn’t matter though...

    Tire pressure

it’s not that dramatic either way really. The rear track bar is really not doing much. There is no lateral load back there so it’s not really doing anything the leaf springs can’t do, but it’s also not hurting the ride quality much either. Maybe a small amount. I’d say it’s worth getting rid of...

    Tire pressure

30 psi is about the sweet spot for most 31's. You can try a bit lower if you like. Other than OME brand springs, at a certain point there really is no more improving the YJ ride, you pretty much just live with it. OME is the one exception I've seen to that. Of course, OME is not for everyone, it...
