Hi all
Been having fun in my rejuvenated 2.5l YJ (busted EFI is out, shiny new Carb is in) and putting down some nice mileage and she is doing great so far.
I have noted that she sometimes feels 'notchy' when changing gear. Clutch is smooth as butter. No clangs or scrapes or grinding etc.
Just seems to need a little bit more of a nudge to get her into gear sometimes.
Engine oil is brand new, correct levels, pressure is spot on etc.
Is it just age? getting hot? needs more transmission oil?
Any ideas? it's no big deal just wondering if it's a warning of something else to fix in coming months!!

THanks!

What are you running for trans lube? Ive found in my AX5's the 10/30 synthetic worked best. 70/80ish gear oil made shifting way to notchy especially in cold months. Many swear by Redline MT90 IIRC?? Just dont use the typical store bought GL5 gear oils sold these days.

I run Redline MT-90 in my 89 (AX) and wow, it is much smoother than whatever was in the transmission before (motor oil I believe). Been using the Redline for a few years now.

Definitely change the fluid out with Redline MT-90 if it hasn't been changed. When I first got my YJ it wasn't shifting very smoothly and would grind going into 1st and reverse. Changed it out with MT-90 and its been smooth shifting and grind free ever since, that was four years ago.
