Hi all, can't help wondering if this cap should be on good and tight. It's as loose as hell and pops off at the slightest touch. What do you gurus suggest? Thanks again.

Ehhh..if it falls off stuff will get in the bottle. I lost mine years ago and just use a piece of aluminum foil with a few holes poked in it. If you find new ones post up so I gan get one as well.

No, it is not critical to seal. The cooling system just dumps coolant in there when pressure buold as it warms up, and then when it cools down and contracts, it sucks up coolant from there to fill up the space. You only have the cap so crap doesn’t fall in, not to seal the reservoir. The cap should click on and then spin around freely.

It looks to me in the pictures that part of the plastic lip on the canister is broken off. Probably why it won’t stay on.

Good one, that was my main worry that it had to seal. I had a Porsche before this and it had to seal super tight or else carnage! That's good to know. It does indeed spin around when it's on. I just worried that it should definitely not spin! Thanks for the clarity.

There is a tiny bit of the bottle screw which looks like it's been melted that's true but not enough to affect the cap. I may try to melt it back and that might stiffen the cap a bit but it seems its as it should be. Cheers!

Yeah on my Nissan and Toyota, the reservoir is actually pressurized and coolant flows through them constantly. You'll burn yourself opening those much like the radiator. YJ is very different in that regard, literally just a jug for the radiator to suck from and blow into lol.

Haha, love this old thing. It sucks, it blows, it like a Wayne's World sketch on wheels!

Just run some electrical tape around the lip and it should snug it up........
Nice. I tried that but it's so cold that the tape is losing its flexibility and tackyness! I'll root around the garage for something similar and snug it down until spring. Cheers.

Hahaha, nice one. I'll scrub it up and send it back. That should do it. If I get some success I'll start sending other 'new' bits back like the steering wheel, clutch, dial gauges......
