Ah OK I was looking all over for the letters amc but you mean the logo at the end of the three lines. Cool. I don't know my Jeep history so well. Is AMC a good engine then and are there other ones in a YJ?
1988 YJ
all YJ HAVE A PCV SYSTEM 2 PATHS, ONE SUCKS (VACUUM END) AND THE OTHER IS FRESH CLEAN AIR. BY LAW USA FOR AGES.
IT EATS UP THE NASTY CRANKCASE, BLOW BY GASES, SO HUMANS DON'T BREATH IT. END STORY. PCV
seen
here for 60 years. (by law) 1961 to NOW.
wiki jeep history is is no secret. just read it. now is FCA. (fiat) in the usa we get parts from rockauto, for parts pure 1988 custom to this car.
the valve clogs easy from the oily nasty fumes passing through it and is top service item, for sure at the 60k mile service, point.
the 2.5L is very rugged engine, (as is the 4L that just has 2 extra cylinders). they are sisters
the block and head are both
cast iron. (pure love there) no easy to crack aluminum heads.!
on mine NO EGR is here, love that too for sure, ever spend 2 days long cleaning out endless carbon'ed up EGR paths,
the enigne is OHV push rod, and no cams to wreck in the head for sure those pesky DOHC twin cam heads and with rubber belts run.
the OHV just runs and keeps going like a TIMEX watch , takes a lick'n and keeps on ticking, no kidding.
the best years are 91 to 95 YJ (or even better a JK jeep, 3.6L ) the TJ 96 has the best electronics (USA), OBD2 and 10x more easy to diagnose.
the TBI older years is ok (my guess your is still TBI)?
the carb BBC + electronic BBC controller stink to heck.
the FSM is free to read and get seen at the next link,
here is a free manual for the car, at one of the best places to get any kind of manual , im and downloads are free 87
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/836314/Jeep-1987-Wrangler.html?page=477&term=pcv&selected=1#manual
page 477 is PCV
the valve is a spring loaded check valve,. they love to clog up, so we buy one or just clean it, (soaked in , acetone solvent over night) most folks just replace it.
a Jeep from Germany, may have unique parts, after all it meets there smog laws not ours. (their call )
the VIN answers all that, the first 4 digits decode to target country and their smog laws.
end smog
learn that 1 model car may have up to 6 engine choices day 1 new ,sold in 50 different countries, and is by THEIR laws not ours USA>
no vin posted so , no idea at all what you have.
the best engine here is the 4.0L Inline 6, for better low end torque, I have the 2.5L and doing fully upgrades to it to get 100% like new performance.
The best parts are at rockauto, or crown or jeep yj parts Omix-ADA
