I've owned my bone stock 91 Jeep Renegade for 15 yrs and it was time to give it a make over b/c there is barely any metal left and I refused to scrap it (ie. so i'm in the process of doing a complete, frame-off restoration). Currently I've repaired a good scrap yard frame and sent it off to be sand blasted and painted while I am trying to figure out the right combination of suspension lift/body lift//wheels/tires/fender flares that will work best.
The problem is that I want to put 35" tires under it on 17" rims but there are a bunch of things that I need to figure out and it is important that I get the look right the 1st time...so I have a bunch of questions and it would be super helpful if people could post a pic of their rig with their mods so I can get a sense of what they look like and how it all came together. This jeep when complete will probably be used 85% on-road (city) 10% hwy and 5% off road...so I'm not going for a hardcore, purpose-built off-road machine...I just want a fun, off-road capable Jeep that looks kewl.
Basically I'd like to know the following:
1) Is a 4.5" suspension lift (Rough Country) sufficient to clear 35" tires w/o rubbing?...or will I likely need a 2" body lift as well?
2) Will a slip yolk eliminator be a must or can i get away without it if I am not doing hardcore off-road?
3) What width of rims did you go with and/or what would you recommend? (Note: I want to avoid more than 2" of tire sticking past the fender flares... and all the associated tickets).
4) What off-sets/back spacing did you use or would you recommend?
5) What brand/size of fender flare do you have and/or what would you recommend? FYI: Ultimately I'd like to paint the fender flares to match (metallic khaki - inspired by the Quadratec YJL) to keep a bit of the Renegade feel...so I'd be curious to hear from anyone that has painted their aftermarket fender flares.
So, if you've got a YJ w/ 35" tires, I love to hear your thoughts!
Cheers,
Ran
