…my 1993 automatic 2.5 L is having trouble shifting from first to second gear. Fluid is full. It was slipping for a bit. It pretty much just violently shakes when it tries to go to second. I can drive it in second gear to the coffee shop about a mile away but can’t take it out wheeling until I can afford a transmission rebuild, which it probably needs. In the meantime, any suggestions on anything that can be checked or changed that might fix it? Do yj autos have transmission vacuum moderators or transmission sensors that I could try replacing? Hoping for a cheap/quick fix if one exists. Thanks.

I don't recall seeing anything about vacuum moderators or sensors.

How many miles are on your auto? I have about 180,000 on my 32RH I have been struggling with mine since I bought it in Oct 2020. Mine suffers from "Torque convertor drain back". When I start cold, I have to allow the transmission pump to refill the convertor when I shift into R, N, or D. This takes about 15 seconds. Otherwise I have absolutely no power driving off and risk damaging the transmission. I don't have the original cooling lines, and if they did I don't think there was a check valve installed for drain back until the TJ. My trans has also been leaking since day 1. I have changed the gasket 4 times, so I am guessing it is a seal. IDK. Every time I fill the damn think, it is difficult to see where it falls on the dipper. It is possible I overfilled every time redoing my gasket. But, I decided to hopefully solve all my problems by swapping in a manual.

And I assumed that you know this, but just to make sure, when you say fluid is full, this is when the fluid is hot and the dipper is checked while the Jeep is idling in Neutral? Mine would shake and skip around if I didn't have enough fluid.

Thanks for the reply. It has 120,000 miles. I am aware of the sequence to check the fluid and it is full and not leaking. Going to give Lucas transmission fix a try and report back. In my area it looks like the trans rebuild will be around $2500, so it will be a while until I get around to saving up for the fix.

$2500 is totally redick. I am sure that you can order a brand new one for that.
