    Lesson learned the hard way

There is a modification some people have done to cut a square hole in the floor directly above the pump. DON'T cut it with the tank in place. It makes pulled the pump easy but I'd rather go through the struggle.

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

Thanks, the speedometer, odometer and trip all work but I just couldn't reset the trip. I found a video about repairing the trip and it's pretty straight forward. After watching the video it brought back memories of removing the clear plastic face cover to clean it when I had the gauge...

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

Ha,well heck. Full tank of gas but now my trip odometer doesn't reset. Push the button and nothing. Worked for the last few years so I don't know what to say. I think it may be a sealed case so I can't get to the internal parts. On a positive note my new windshield wiper blades fit.

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

I'll check for leaks. The first front bolt/stud was snapped off on mine and had it fixed when the head was redone at the shop. Seems to be a common problem. Something else that different from the way the factory did business was the exhaust manifold went straight on the head with no...

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

Update, I think all is good for now regarding the fuel pressure, or good as it can get using older Harbor Freight fuel pressure test kit. I went on a short drive and with a warm engine the running fuel pressure was 32 psi with the vacuum attached and the pressure was 40 psi with the vacuum...

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

I'll keep updating this. The plugs, wires, cap, and throttle body are either new or cleaned about 1000 miles ago during a full engine rebuild. The only original items are the injectors, fuel pump and pressure regulator. Timing was checked ok but it's controlled by the ECP si there's nothing...

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

Thanks so, I'll see what I can find here. Yes the pressure range is 31 -39 depending on vacuum. Mine seems to be stuck at 31 with or without vacuum which might be OK. I'm going to fill the tank today and do a MPG test. I'll let you know what I find.

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

Where can I find a fuel pressure regulator with the proper 31 PSI control? Yesterday I had a stupidity problem with my 2.4L MPI losing power and going into what modern cars do which is Limp Mode - not a YJ feature but that's what it seemed like and as I pulled into the driveway I barely had...

YJ 95 2.5 runs on 4 cylinders and then 3 after 3-6 miles of driving

When it starts missing, shut off the engine and unplug one spark lead at a time and start the engine to determine which cylinder is off. You can swap wires or plugs to see if the problem follows a bad wire or plug. You can also unplug an injector connection while it's running to see if it's an...

    Crankshaft problem

Going back to the original days if it was hard to crank over and backfiring through the carb then the spark timing was waaay off, probably very early and fighting against the starter motor and lighting off the fuel while the intake valve was open. Go to the resource section of this forum and...

    Crankshaft problem

I believe the flywheel only attached to the crankshaft one way. So if you rotate the crank to properly match the camshaft then the crank piston sensor mounted to the flywheel will now be 180 degrees out. I'm not sure what you have there.

    Crankshaft problem

No problem. I mentioned the key because I once had one get a dent in it which prevented the pully form going fully in place. You should be able to pry the key out and make sure both channels where the key goes are clean. The new pully shouldn't be any problem.

    Crankshaft problem

Huh, Looking at some pics I took during my rebuild it looks like my crank pully is almost right up against the timing chain cover and the timing marking are almost above the edge of the pully. Is it possible the crankshaft key got crooked or the washer under the bolt isn't right? Remove the...

    Clutch problems

How did you get home after it got stuck in 5th? Did you have any problems shifting in or out of 1st-4th? 5th gear is know to have issues of it's own with retainer clips coming off but I don't know the symptoms. Helpful hint: The new slave will come with two plastic retainer clips on the...

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

Looks great! I'm glad it worked out for you. Now I think I'll follow your lead and get a new Bosch pump and MTS sending unit. Mine still look original and float and sending coil are very worn. Did you cut a hole in the back floor for easy access to the pump? I'm still undecided on that mod.

Fluids have also greatly improved over the years since our owner manuals were written and most new Fluids will last over 50,000 miles in trucks with manual transmissions.

    Gearbox oil

About 10 years ago I called Royal Purple about the GL 4/5 debate and they reassured me their proprietary formula will work. Much of what you read in comparison test comes from the competition. Also, most of any chemical reactions with soft metals occurs at temps approaching 500+ degrees...
